In The Wild
My interest in photography began at the age of fourteen, but it was a wildlife presentation at my local camera club that set everything in motion. From that moment I became driven to photograph animals in their natural environment. Over the past fifteen years that curiosity has grown into a journey that began with garden birds close to home and has since led to international travel in some of the world’s more remote and challenging locations.
My approach to wildlife photography is rooted in observing behaviour and gaining an understanding of the environments animals inhabit. The image matters, but so does the experience of being there; waiting, watching and responding as moments unfold naturally.
Reaching these places often demands flexibility and resilience. Travel may involve four wheel drive vehicles small aircraft including float planes flown by bush pilots and extended periods of specialist camping in locations shared with wildlife where comfort is secondary to opportunity.
I regard time spent with animals in their own environment as a genuine privilege. The combination of uncertainty, immersion and connection has left me with lasting memories, a deep respect for nature and an enduring love of wildlife in all its forms.
